Teshape

Glossary

Key terms used across the Teshape app and documentation. Where a term has a specific technical meaning that differs from everyday use, it’s noted here.

A – C

Active client
A trainee currently paired with a coach. Each coach has a maximum active client count set by their subscription tier.
Assignment
A training or nutrition plan that a coach has attached to a specific trainee, anchored to a start date. An assignment is a copy of the template — edits to the template after assignment don't affect the live assignment.
Check-in
A structured questionnaire sent by a coach to a trainee. Check-ins are used for intake forms, weekly progress reports, and accountability prompts.
Coach
A Teshape user with the Coach portal active. Coaches manage clients, build training and nutrition libraries, and have a searchable public profile. In code, the coach role is called "trainer" for historical reasons — "Coach" is always used in all user-facing copy.
Connection
The active pair between one coach and one trainee. A trainee can have exactly one active connection at a time.

D – M

Document
A file (contract, PDF, assessment result) shared within the coach-trainee relationship via the Documents feature. Separate from message attachments.
Dual portal
The Teshape model of one app with two distinct interfaces — Coach and Trainee — accessible from the same login via a role switcher.
Exercise
The base unit of the training library. An exercise has a name, movement type, target muscles, and optional coaching notes. Can be from the bundled stock library or coach-created.
Logged set
A single set of an exercise as recorded during a session: weight, reps, duration (if timed), RPE, rest taken, and PR flag.
Meal
A named collection of foods within a nutrition plan. The middle tier of the nutrition library: Plan → Meal → Food.
Meal template
A trainee-saved collection of foods that can be re-logged in a single tap. Useful for meals eaten regularly.
Membership
The active service arrangement between a coach and trainee created when a coach confirms receipt of an Offer payment. Memberships are records, not Teshape subscriptions.

O – R

Offer
A structured service proposal a coach creates for a trainee. Covers service description, price, and duration. Goes through a state machine (draft → published → accepted → awaiting payment → awaiting confirmation → confirmed). Teshape doesn't process the actual payment.
Overload score
A post-session metric comparing this session's performance to the trainee's previous attempt at the same workout. Indicates whether progressive overload occurred.
Plan
The top tier of both the training library (Plan → Workout → Exercise) and the nutrition library (Plan → Meal → Food). A training plan is a multi-week schedule of workouts mapped to specific days.
Portal
Either the Coach portal or the Trainee portal — the role-specific navigation and feature surface within the Teshape app.
RPE
Rating of Perceived Exertion. A 1–10 scale indicating how hard a set felt. Used by coaches to prescribe intensity without specifying exact weights. A set at RPE 10 means no reps left; RPE 7 means 3 reps in reserve.
Role switcher
The UI control in the sidebar profile card that flips the app between the Coach and Trainee portals. Only visible when both roles are active on the account.

S – Z

Session
A single executed workout. Created when a trainee taps Start session. Contains all logged sets, duration, and a completion status.
Specialty
A keyword tag on a coach's profile (e.g. Powerlifting, Weight loss, HIIT) used for filtering in Find a coach.
Trainee
A Teshape user with the Trainee portal active. Trainees follow plans, log sessions, track measurements and nutrition, and can optionally connect to a coach. Always free — no subscription required.
Tier
A coach's subscription level: Free, Pro, or Elite. Determines maximum active client count and AI generation allowance.
Verification
The one-time coach identity check (government ID + certification) required before a coach's profile is searchable in Find a coach.
Workout
The middle tier of the training library. A workout is a single session's worth of exercises with prescribed sets, reps, RPE, and rest. Workouts live inside plans but can also be assigned standalone.
